Heading Off The Beaten Track – Copenhagen

On our holidays, heading off the beaten track is something most of us would really like to do. Well known tourist attractions that are commonly located in well-known cities have been too exposed to us over the years that it has become tiresome for us to see them in person. Depending on what time of the year you choose to visit, some of these major destinations may end up causing you more hassle than what they’re worth. During peak times, especially during school breaks, most of these tourist destinations get booked up in minutes, and even the queues can end up long and unrelenting. All these may only be worth it if you’ve been wanting to visit an attraction for a long time already. If you wish to have a more authentic experience of a certain destination that you wish to visit, it may be better for you to choose to go slightly off the beaten track. A great example of this is Copenhagen, one of the most well-known holiday destinations of late.

Freetown Christiania

If seeing the way other people go on with their lives and getting our of regular civilization is something you like to do, then you have basically hit the jackpot with Freetown Christiania. Not far from the Copenhagen city center, it is an alternative hippy commune which was set up in the 70s by a group of like-minded people. After coming to an agreement in 2011, the authorities have chosen to leave Christiania alone despite the original opposition from the past. The small town is completely car-free, and you will not be allowed to purchase a house there; you’ll have to apply for one, given that you have passed a certain criteria which will be given to you. There is always a lot of things going on, from live music to excellent street food and even a local market.

The Vesterbro

No matter how artsy and quirky neighborhoods could go, nowhere in the world does it better than the Vesterbro. This area, located in the southwest of the city, was once known for being a heavily working class neighborhood and was even famed for its red-light district! In the present, the place is now known as a trendy and hip place that is filled with independent cafes, easteries and attractions. There are numbers of excellent places that you can stay in, so if you are seeking for hotels in Copenhagen, Denmark, look no further! Walking through the town’s streets and just seeing what you come across with is something you should give time to.

Assistens – The Cemetery

While you are on vacation, a cemetery may be quite an unusual place to visit. But you should consider and give this one a chance. You can easily spend an afternoon whiling away the hours here as it is famed for its incredible beauty. You will also be able to see the final resting places of famous people here.
